Each candidate is counted only once, for the year in which he or she completed the degree. The tenure-track offer may have been secured in the year of the degree, or before or after. For MD/PhD students, acceptance into residency is viewed as the equivalent of a tenure-track offer, as is, for any student, a multi-year contract teaching in a Medical School. Similarly, a secure contract at a non-tenuring educational institution is considered tenure-track equivalent.
