Aesthetics

Penn has an emerging strength in aesthetics, with Guyer continuing to pursue his longstanding interests in Kant's aesthetics, but now also working on a comprehensive history of philosophical aesthetics from the beginning of the eighteenth century through the end of the twentieth. Camp works on a variety of topics in aesthetics that intersect with philosophy of language and mind, such as metaphor and sarcasm, fiction, pictorial and musical representation, and emotions. In the Spring of 2009, Guyer and Camp are co-teaching a graduate seminar on emotions in the arts.
