Philosophy of Science

Aydin Mohseni

I am a philosopher of science, and (formal, social) epistemologist whose work is informed by game & decision theory and Bayesian statistics. My research concerns questions regarding how to assess improve scientific and statistical practices in the social and biomedical sciences, especially against the backdrop of concerns raised in light of the replication crisis and accompanying reform movements in those fields. I also do research on topics in AI ethics and safety, evolutionary game theory, and computational modeling.

Michael Weisberg

Michael Weisberg is interim director of Perry World House, as well as Bess W. Heyman President’s Professor and Chair of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania. A philosopher of science and senior negotiator at United Nations Climate Conferences, he is editor-in-chief of Biology and Philosophy, director of the Penn Laboratory for Understanding Science, and director of the Galápagos Education and Research Alliance.

Quayshawn Spencer

I specialize in philosophy of science, philosophy of biology, and philosophy of race.  In philosophy of science, I primarily focus on metaphysical problems in science, such as what is an appropriate way to define "natural kinds."  In philosophy of biology, I primarily focus on metaphysical problems in biology, such as whether biological populations can have fuzzy temporal parts and whether there is any way to group organisms into biologically real subspecies.
